Here We Go Again

Only five years pass from the last big scandal that involved Italian football.

At that time was about referee corruptions and the Italian football passed a very bad summer, with the exception of the Italian victory in the World Cup,  where Juventus was penalized and ended up in the second division.

Everyone from that moment started to speak about a clear football, a different panorama, a new era.
But here we are, once again.

This time we have to face something that not even in the comedy movie was possible to imagine. Fixing match. But how? Altering the performance of players putting sleeping pills in the drinks to then go bet high sum of money on the defeat of that team.

Is it a new Hollywood comedy? A new American Pie? No, it’s the condition of Italian football today.

Till now, and this scandal came out 24 hours ago, only second and third division are involved but there are rumors about some match fixed of Serie A as well.

People and fans are asking why the Italian championship lost his charm in the last years, why the big players are not attracted anymore to Italy and they prefer to go to England or Spain. I think that this is one of the answer.

Too much corruptions is around Italian football, too many teams, too many money involved, too easy to create a way to make money.

Hard to find a solution, but not impossible. I would reset everything from zero, giving much less importance to the television which is an intake of football, in Italy the biggest intake.

England can be an example, were not all the match of first and second division are broadcast on Sky.

This will make less money circulate and will start to make people and family going back to the stadiums and
give a sense of freshness to this gray and dark world. From that point we should start to have propriety stadiums, since Italy is one of the few European country were almost no one has it.

But this is a dream for now.

The crisis started in 2000 with the loss of the first position in the European championship ranking and then went on and on. We thought that 2006, the huge Calciopoli scandal, was the peak but we discovered that probably was only one of the peaks.

  1. Very explicit, honest and inspiring post which makes people question. Also, very mature sentence construction and usage of language. Well done! :)
